Yes We Can

This video has been picking up a lot of traction over the last week. There was a story on NPR this morning about this.

I think regardless of party affilitation, this clip shows you what charisma is all about.

Plus, it doesn't hurt to have Will.I.Am with you either!

I definitely agree. Charisma at its best.
A classmate of mine, Shweta Joshi mention this video in our World Topics today and I went home and watched it. Then watched it again. And again just for kicks.
I think this video is exactly what Barack Obama is about. Hope. When you hear his speeches you just want to go out and wear an "Obama '08" t-shirt proclaiming to the nations, "Yes We Can". This power to inspire is a gift that is definitely carrying him and getting those votes in the primaries.

Clever. Music = Votes, too. Maybe Clinton should play sax on tv again. Can Hillary play the drums? It'll be a regular jazz combo. Oh, and why is CNN including superdelegates in their totals? I thought they didn't pledge until the actual conventions.

a spiritual power or personal quality that gives an individual influence or authority over large numbers of people.

Whether one supports Obama or not, he or she must admit that he has a great amount of charisma. He really knows how to move a crowd, which is a big part of winning over the American public. He sure knows what he's doing.

Well, it's nice to hear some optimism. Let's see some results!

And that is all I have to say.

I LOVE Scarlett Johansson.
Haha.
But aside from that, the video...is quite powerful, I think.
It has people you recognize, people you don't. It's very diverse and it was quite clever of Will.I.Am.
I think that if enough people see it, maybe it will change some votes but it probably won't be enough to make a difference. Most people have probably made up their minds by now who they will vote for in their state's primary or caucus.
I really liked it. It's what everything should be about. We can do anything.
Yes we can.

I think that this ad is a very powerful advertisement for the Obama campaign. The video is packed with a star-studded line-up of singers, actors/actresses, and many other people from Hollywood. I think the young artists such as Will.I.Am , Common, and John Legend have a big influence on the people who see this this ad because their music reaches a large number of people, and they are well respected musicians. The actual speech given by Senator Obama in the ad is a very well delivered speech that inspires enthusiam from people who hear it. Overall I think this is a well constructed advertisement that has the ability to sway alot of voters toward the Obama campaign.

Barack is clearly the main figure in this music video, just as he is the best candidate for presidency. With all the slogans coined for Barack's campaign, it's no wonder people are rooting for their favorite. Just as Barack can save Iraq, from sea to shining sea: yes we can!

Hummm... Obama sounds a whole lot like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. They sound alike, and sort of look alike. And they both want to "unite"--King wanted to unite blacks and whites, while Obama wants to unite all of America. But King said the words "I have a dream" while Obama says "Yes we can."

I will turn to 18 after this July, so I was exited about voting. I was planning on voting for Hilary. Because I have read a biography of her, I think she is amazing. But now I am kind of undecided about who I am going to vote. Obama is cool, too.

I think that this is a very good move (whether provoked by Obama himself or not), but the only thing I worry about is whether this will distract voters from Obama's platform and stance on the issues.

However, it is getting some kind of message across (with almost 3 million views on youtube), but I hope people will see more than just a cool video.

Psh Will.I.Am

It's all about Mister John Legend.

:-) I have seen this video EVERYWHERE and i get goosebumps everytime i watch it.

This is what i'm talking about! This is the type of inspiration that will Cure this countries' "failure to thrive" syndrome.

Bring me Change Obama. That's all i want.

Who would have thought that all it took to get excited about a public speech was a charismatic presidential candidate who DOESN'T LEAN ON THE PODIUM while speaking!

Wow. This speech is powerful. I remember you talking about it in class but i didnt picture anything like this. It almost sounds like he is starting a revolution. And with all of the actors and musicians, the speech only becomes more powerful. With charisma like this, i cant see why he wouldnt be president. If change is what america truly wants, he is the prime example of it.

WOW! that was very very powerful. I believe he has the potential to change our nation, but Obama faces much racism in his campaign do to his ethnicity. "yes We CAN" it got more and more passionate as the song(speech) continued. I would definately recommend this video to all voters.

Oh wow! That was such an amazing video. I think it speaks loudly about a change that is occurring in American politics, that change is the shift, the peak of the youth demographic voters. 18-25 year old voters and their usual indifference to political matters is something that is very near and dear to me (FBLA project!), and it excites me to see that there are efforts; good, great, amazing efforts being made to reach out to them. Young Americans hold such a potential to be a powerhouse when it comes to votes and it’s great to see more effort being pushed toward recruiting them. I do believe that this year will be one of the highest voter turnouts, especially among the young and if certain candidates can continue to build up such positive momentum the outcome could be interesting.

This video of Yes We Can is a good example of that we can change things around in the world. That everybody is one nation and one race in the world. That we have hope in the world for us and Yes can can do something about the world.

WEll, to tell you truth. I somewhat lost interest in the little clip about 3 minutes through, tops. The " yes we can"s was a little tiring but although, as it went on i was getting the point that even though the government seems a little split and undecided. We still can stand together and say "si se puede." Or at least thats what i will be saying.

Dylan B said...

although im not a democrat, he does make a good point about how we need change and all, and about hope, and yes we can. I also want to point out that one of the random people who popped up was Common, who had one of the best albums of '07.

I think the "Yes We Can," video is a great example of the grassroot efforts of different groups of people.

I also believe that if Republican's had more people like Will.I.Am, that were excited about a candidate, we might have a better shot at all coming together and moving forward in this election season.

I really think its a great video...

I think this video is very powerful and inspirational. I feel this is especially appealing to the younger voter, and really targets what kind of campaign the younger voter will respond to. I think Obama does a great job of projecting his charisma to the public, and the public in turn responds positively in his favor... or so they might after watching this video. Americans love a good speech...and Obama can give us one.

This video was a really awesome idea. The whole idea of turning a speech in to a song and into a videis really brillant. Things like this always make the races more exciting to see what the other candidates are going to do.

So when I watch this video, the first thing that pops into my mind is how large a role the internet/technology plays in elections in this day and age. Yes, I agree, the video is great, but what strikes me even more is how music and YouTube (two things I wouldn't initially connect with voting and politics) can make such a big difference.

Wow. I am impressed.

That's pretty cool. It's able to reach out to the youth and the older generations. I think what Brandon Christoph said- Obama being about hope- is really true. I like his optimism, and i think i could vote for him.
