SCOTUS Pick Coming

DRIVING NEXT WEEK -- Look for President Obama to name his Supreme Court pick Monday, and look for it to be Solicitor General Elena Kagan, a former Harvard Law dean. The pick isn’t official, but top White House aides will be shocked if it’s otherwise. Kagan’s relative youth (50) is a huge asset for the lifetime post. And President Obama considers her to be a persuasive, fearless advocate who would serve as an intellectual counterweight to Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Scalia, and could lure swing Justice Kennedy into some coalitions The West Wing may leak the pick to AP’s Ben Feller on the later side Sunday, then confirm it for others for morning editions. For now, aides say POTUS hasn’t decided, to their knowledge.

Well i think that if they believe she is the best person for this job then more power to them.

Anything Obama does will be controversial, so some Americans will like her and some will not.

Intriguing. The Harvard law dean? A woman? Only 50? Sounds like a great new addition to the Supreme Court...hopefully enough to make the court a little (or a lot) less conservative and more moderate, how a fair and balanced court should be.

Judging from this post, Kagan seems to have a good educational history as well as much needed experience. Hopefully we'll know President Obama's pick by Monday.

It's nice know about things such as whom the president chooses for his supreme court & their background, so the public can know what's going on.

I hope this doesn't cause the issues that Sotomayor's pick brought up. I'm glad she has relative youth, which will keep her around for a good while. She can keep the weight of the court with her values. I approve.

This entire bit reminds me of the West Wing episode were they are picking the supreme court judge i think, and the president changes his mind last minute and shocks like everyone. Pretty sure West
Wing hepls me understand everything about the government and the white house

Some media people have been saying that he should appoint a moderate. But I think it would be good if he replaced a somewhat liberal judge with a liberal judge.

This pick seems like a good decision. Elena Kagan should be a good addition to the supreme court. By being a former Harvard law dean, she obviously has experience. The public should give her a chance once she is chosen. Hopefully president Obama won't be criticized for his choice from the beginning as he has been in the past.

Having Kagan on the supreme court would bring new perpective to the system. Her age, sex and ethnicity are something that would influence and impact decisions given by the court and would be able to help issues that have not yet been addressed. New ideas are the change we are looking for and hope to achieve.
